Jessica Strawser - New Editor of Writer’s Digest

Writer’s Digest has announced that they have a new editor. Jessica Strawser was announced as the new editor on the Writer’s Digest Forum this past Tuesday. There is also an introduction in the way of a questions and answers article with the new Writer’s Digest editor on the Writer’s Digest website.

Strawser promises that there will be changes which she says will be aimed at meeting the needs of the magazine’s readers. As a hobby collector of Writer’s Digest Magazine, I am looking forward to seeing where the magazine goes under her leadership.

Bookbinding

I am going to be setting up a area where I can work on crafts to be sold, and one of the things I want to work on is my bookbinding.  I love binding books, so I intend to set myself up an area where I can get back into bookbinding and creating hand bound books that I can sell to help pay off the money owed against my parents’ house.  The house they had wanted me to be able to inherit for the lifetime i had set aside to be their caregiver.

Trying to work after personal loss

I am trying to get back to my work and my writing, but it is difficult. My mom, who has always believed in my ability to be a successful author, passed away on the 14th of this month and trying to focus on work just seems like an impossibility. I know I need to, so I steel myself and remind myself that her and I are the strong ones, and pushing aside my pain I do what work I am able to.

It’s not enough, but at least I am not going to give up. She would not want that, she particularly would not want me to give up on my writing, so I am going to go on. My mom believed that I was a success. I could find ways to make money from my writing and she was so proud of my ability to do that. For her, I could do nothing but get more successful and I intend to do just that. I am going to maintain the work I have established and improve upon that. I am going to stick with the writing course I am taking and go on to be a published author. My mom knew I could do it, and that means I know I can do it.

Computer Issues

I’m experiencing technical issues with my desktop computer. Over the past two days the thing has developed some kind of start-up twitch. When I start the computer in the morning, it will suddenly restart itself over and over about 4 times or more. I’ve tried to run virus scans and did a boot-time scan of the entire system, but it did not seem to correct the malfunction. This morning I downloaded everything I had not yet got from Microsoft including their Service Pack 3 and the Malicious Software Removal tool. I’m hoping that this will cure the twitch, if not then I am not sure what else to do. I tried to reset to last conditions that were known to work, but hate to backstep the system too far. If I have to I’ll drop it back in a system reset to last Sunday, which is the last day I know it was working properly. Will hold off on that drastic step until I know if this MS doohickeys update works.

Business Card Program - Free Today

I have downloaded a new program from the Giveaway of the Day website, and if you are in need of a quick and easy way to create business cards I suggest you go check it out in the next couple of hours. I’ve added a link to the Giveaway of the Day website in my sidebar so you can check out their kewl giveaways.

Today they have BusinessCard MX as the giveaway, and I downloaded it to see how it would work for creating business cards for my websites such as Family Caregiver Info and others. This is the one that I created for The Writing Office in just a few minutes -

The program is easy to use and has a quick enough learning curve to it.  The clipart you see here was part of the clipart that was bundled with the program, which has an impressive collection of clipart and some really nice pre-made backgrounds for a wide variety of professions.

The program supports a wide range of card types and papers for printing your cards, or as you can see it is very easy to save the finished card as an image.  The program offers a variety of image saving sizes and even the ability to export as a CMYK image.

As I was checking the image save options just now I found a huge selection of pre-made designs that you can customize with your own information.  The perfect tool for the small business owner that wants to experiement with creating a range of card styles at home before they decide if they want to invest in a large scale printing of cards - or as a way to create your own print-on-demand cards that you can print out as you need them.

Enough from me, get over to the Giveaway of the Day site so you can download this handy busienss card program for yourself before it’s no longer being given away.
